Report
Cabinet Sec. Bob read
the June 10th , 2007 minutes because they were not sent out to the
Cabinet Officers, due to a computer problem.
Motion by RC Carl
Newton,
Seconded by RC Evelyn Spiering to adopt the minutes as read. Carried.
Correspondence was
read by Cab Sec Bob.(Attached)
It was brought to Gov
Mark's attention by PDG Fred Cross that because the New Cabinet had not
been inducted yet, that all previous motions were not valid. Governor Mark
appologized for this error and then INDUCTED the New DISTRICT
CABINET. After this was done a
"Blanket Motion " by
RC Evelyn Spiering, Seconded by RC Carl Newton to accept the previous
motions was made. Carried.
Governor Mark then
asked all of the Cabinet to give a short BIO about themselves so that all
present would have a better idea of what might be expected from them.
Vice District
Governor's Report
VDG Don incorporated
his BIO with his report. He talked about the future and that no one really
knows what the future holds. He believes that change is inevitable and
that there is an overwhelming need for change. He believes that whether we
make it or let it happen, it will. It is better for us if we make it
happen. Change is scarey, but in the end we all say , "Why didn't we
change earlier"..
In closing he states
that he is grateful and proud to be able to serve as VDG for the upcoming
year.
District Officers
Reports
ZC 24W John Stewart
that their
club had a "Boat Criuse" as part of a zone project. He then presented PDG
Ray Adam - Chair for Sightfirst II a cheque for $610.00.
District Chair Reports
The following are
highlights from the District Chair Reports:
Youth Exchange -RC
Evelyn Spiering for Lion Jim Deslippe
reported that it was a
successful year with 16 youths coming from 10 countries. They spent 10
days with one family and the 10 days with another family before spending
the last 8 days at the camp in Mount Bridges.
This summer was a
struggle to fill 32 placements. We have over 1200 members in our District
and it was hard to find 32 spots. Sponsors don't necessarilly need to be
Lions or Lioness. Many of the youth this year spent time with
non-Lion/Lioness families.
Another item that I
would ask is to look around for teens interested in being involved with
the YOUTH EXCHANGE programme. This is something the District has not
promoted and is an opportunity missed
MDA Convention - PDG
Bill Bissonnette
reported
that 404 were registered. They made an unexpected profit and few problems
were encountered.
Retention Chairperson
- PDG Jacqui Tofflemire-Flood
reported that the Lions Summit will be held in
Brantford on November
3-4, 2007. A Vision Statement for District A-1 was constructed from the
training session on Saturday. A motion by VDG Don McKessock, Seconded
by ZC John Stewart to accept the statement. Carried.
District A-1 Eyes
Right Sight Conservation Foundation Chairperson - PCC Peter Geene reported
by PDG Joe Madacsi
that , since the last report at our convention, one board meeting was
held on May 28,
2007. They received three applications for funding by the Foundation.
1. Two Specialized stretcher chairs for eye surgeries at a cost of
$25,000.00 were purchased. This has increased surgeries by at least 40%.
This was supported by the Strathroy Lions Club 2. A YAG Laser for
St Thomas Elgin General Hospital for Approximately $37,000.00. This
upgrade to their equipment was presented by St.Thomas and Port Stanley
Lions Clubs. 3. A new Cataract Surgery Clinic at Bluewater
Health/Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital in Petrolia made a request for
3 pieces of equipment totaling $265,000.00. The board will have to make a
decision which unit/units they will fund through the Foundation. We are
also looking at obtaining a grant from LCIF for this project.
District A-1
Leadership Chairperson - PDG Fred Cross
reported that he is not happy with the results of the Leadership Forum on
Saturday. With a District of over 1200 members, we had only 72 Members in
attendance. He does not know if it is worth the time and effort put forth
by the Session Leaders. Recommendation: Send to
Long
Range Planning
the question " Is there a need for this Forum?".
The tentative date
for next year's Forum is
August 23, 2008.
Motion by RC Evelyn
Spiering, Seconded by ZC Peter Seguin to receive all reports made.
Carried.
Old Business
District A-1 Leo Chair
Carolyn Oshell
introduced herself and
said that if there was enough interest she would like to have a LEO
Infromation Day for the District. If you are interested, contact herself
or MD"A" Chairperson, Lion Fred Heyduck.
PRC Steven Mahovlich
is
continuing his efforts to start a New Club in LaSalle. He needs help.
This will begin again in October 2007.
RC Carl Newtown
says that Region 1 is collecting pop tabs for a new wheelchair. There is
also a need for glasses, black ink cartridges, old hearing aids and
disposed of cell phones.
New Business
Lion Peter Best
stated the the new
directory had sections printed too small for him to see. He requested a
larger copy from PRC Steven Mahovlich.
A "Correction Sheet"
will be made for the next cabinet meeting.
PDG Fred Cross
requested $1000.00
"Seed Monies"for next year's A-1 Convention. Motion to support this
from RC Carl
Newton, Seconded by ZC
Wayne Cudney. Carried.
